Theatre In The Park presents A Christmas Carol. This musical comedy version of the Dickens classic has been performed annually since 1974! Join us this holiday season. Believe again in the magic of Christmas!
Theatre In The Park is delighted to announce that its founding Artistic Director, Ira David Wood III, will return to the stage this holiday season in his beloved production of A Christmas Carol. After a celebrated 50-year run as Ebenezer Scrooge, Wood will step into a new role this year: the whimsical Lamplighter.
Wood officially passed the role of Scrooge to his son, Ira David Wood IV, in 2023. Yet his connection to the show remains as strong as ever. Not only will he continue to direct the production, but by stepping into the role of the Lamplighter he will once again bring his warmth and presence back to the stage, something local audiences have cherished for decades.
“As much as I enjoyed taking a step back, I did miss being on stage for A Christmas Carol,” said Ira David Wood III. “Passing the role of Scrooge to my son happened at the right time in my life, but I’m thrilled to return in a new role and to share the holiday magic with our audiences once again.”
First staged in 1974, Ira David Wood III’s A Christmas Carol has become one of North Carolina’s most celebrated holiday traditions. Recognized as one of the most successful shows in the state’s theatre history, it continues to sell out performances and has been praised for its blend of heartwarming sincerity and topical humor.
This season, Ira David Wood IV will continue the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, while Ira David Wood III directs and shines a light on stage as the Lamplighter. Together, this father-son team ensures the production’s legacy, and its spirit of holiday magic, will continue to inspire and entertain local theatergoers for years to come.
