Rock the Dock Sail Away with Ambrosia grey photo with anchor

“Rock the Dock” featuring the original artists in concert playing some of the most iconic hits from one of Rock’s greatest eras.

Ambrosia, Maxine Nightingale, John Ford Coley, and Peter Beckett (The Voice of Player), will come together for a magical night performing all of their 1970’s and 1980’s Billboard Top 40 Hits.

These songs are the soundtrack to a generation. Today’s so called smooth yacht rock music scene would not be yacht rock without the contributions of these Grammy winning artists. What emerged primarily from southern California during one of the greatest periods of music is a classic rock radio staple across the United States. You cannot turn on the radio without hearing many of these songs every day. As younger generations of music fans fall in love and embrace these classic rock/soft rock hits, everyone realizes that these songs are becoming bigger now than at any time since their heyday which by common consent stretched between 1976 and 1983. Get ready to ROCK THE DOCK!

The unlikely love of Porgy and Bess is challenged by both Crown and Sportin’ Life, but the real protagonists are the people of Charleston’s Catfish Row. Gershwin’s music indelibly tells their story in the great American opera.

Featuring Nicole Cabell, Kenneth Overton, Victor Ryan Robertson, and Michelle Johnson
Conducted by James Meena, Directed by Du’Bois A’Keen

Performed in English with English supertitles. Company Premiere!

This performance is a coproduction between NC Opera and Opera Carolina.

Beginning to play in bars, rancherias, markets and even in trucks, Los Dos Carnales were forging their path and musical career.  Although they grew up surrounded by music, it was until four years ago that they were invited for the first time to open a concert at La trakalosa de Monterrey in Parras de la Fuente Coahuila.  From that moment, they realized that they had been born to dedicate themselves to music and the stages, an occasion that was also of great help to consolidate themselves as a group.

With several songs having achieved Billboard's Top 10 Regional Mexican Airplay, Los Dos Carnales continues to bring it's core norteño sound - made possible by an accordion, four-string bass guitar, bajo sexto (sixth bass) and drums — that makes them distinctive in a crowded field of regional Mexican sounds.

_______________________

This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of forty years forms the arc of an epic story of the gift of courage summoned by friendship. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, The Color Purple is a celebration of life. It is a story of hope and a spirt-filled testament to the healing power of love, endurance and female solidarity.  The Color Purple was the winner of Tony Awards in both 2006 and 2015, including Best Revival and Best Actress for LaChanze and Cynthia Errivo, respectively.
